Woodhill Patrol
Woodhill Patrol – Jan 2017
7/8th January 2017
We had one of the best turn outs of numbers for a long time at Woodhill.
5 trucks on Saturday….
Brain, Matt, Chris, Paul & Greg
Saturday was spent finding some of the more challenging tracks in the forest, it’s fairly dry in there so it was a good chance to see what the bogs looked like with only a little amount of water in them. We did a couple of tracks backwards and then forwards, managed to find some mud too… the banter was flowing between the boys in the CJ’s and the TJ’s too, plenty of “encouragement” to go into holes that had little or no chance of making it through without winching.
We ended up with a late recover of a stock standard Suzuki Vitara that had ripped his exhaust off, great job by Paul for a bit of Kiwi No’ 8 wire fix… not bad for a Pom. On the way back to the lookout we encounted a trails truck with broken steering…. They were having fun towing him out but took a sharp corner too fast, with a long tow line and ended up pulling him over, no one was hurt and everyone made it out safely, but it ended up being a late finish of about 5.45pm
8 trucks on Sunday (inc 2 x new members)
Brian, Matt, Chris, Paul, Chris, Greg & Paul + Steve (new members)
Sunday was a little bit of a later start, we didn’t meet at the park until 10ish and took a while to get going. With 2 new potential members we took it easy to start with. Paul & son Dylan in a White TJ and Steve with his 2 girls (Maddy & Jess) in a stock standard red TJ.
We had a play on some sand hills before heading back to hard stuff. The girls jumped in with Brain & Greg as dad was getting stuck too much, you should have seen the smiles on their faces after a few steep hill climbs and a muddy bog or two. Smiles all around. (phot muddygirl) I think dad will have to make some mods to his Jeep fairly quickly.
The only recovery we had was back up at the carpark, some muppets in a Nissan, with no recovery gear, no tow points and
no clues, drove into a rather wet looking hole and got stuck. Brian hauled them out and then proceeded to show them just how deep the hole was….. Greg then hauled him out.
We all took off about 4pm…. It was a great weekend in the forest with stunning weather.
